7 Ways to Get Discovered with Instagram Reels
If you’re wondering about Reels VS Images and which is the better content type for helping you to get discovered on Instagram, then keep reading.
I recently had the pleasure of chatting with a Meta Expert about Reels and how when you incorporate them as a part of your strategy there is a higher likelihood of getting discovered on their platforms. That sounds nice!
According to Meta, Reels have a higher probability of being seen by non-followers and when I look back through my own Reel analytics the stats don’t seem to lie. Out of all the Reels I had published, 90% of them were seen by at least 60% non-followers or more.
Remember, Reels is one of the most powerful ways of reaching new audiences with your content on Instagram.
So the more entertaining you can make the reel, the more chance you have of growing your audience. Here are some best practice tips to help increase your likelihood of getting discovered by new audiences on Meta’s platforms as recommended by Meta!
Less is more: Keep your clips short and snappy! Find parts of your video that you can trim off or potentially speed up during those slow moments. Often there are moments while we are setting up the camera, or breaking and pausing in between sentences. Those are areas that can be cut in the editing process to remove those dull moments.
Audio is key: For those who choose to watch using their sound on, then it’s important to engage them via sound as well. Use tracks from the Instagram music library, or upload your own original audio clips. Remember to keep the audience entertained, throughout your entire video and if you’re uploading your own audio beware of any audio copy write. If I’m talking to the camera I tend to record that with my video and then upload an audio track from the Instagram library.
Start quickly and draw people in with a strong hook: Don’t waste time at the start of the video, just get straight in with your hook. An example seen often is introducing yourself. That can be done, once people know why they need to keep listening and what this video is all about. The first 3 seconds of your video are crucial so make it count.
Low-fi content is more relatable to an everyday audience: Don’t worry too much about polishing content so it’s absolutely perfect! Your audience would love to see something that feels more accessible or relatable, like behind-the-scenes content shot from a phone.
Use the in-app editing tools: Take advantage of the native camera tools that make sense for your content, such as text on screen, AR effects (like greenscreen), or Remix etc and while editing in the Instagram is not necessary, there are benefits to allowing others to use your templates if you have edited inside the app.
Avoid content from other platforms or apps: The distribution of your Reel will be much better if you avoid posting content visibly recycled from other platforms. Anything with a watermark of any kind will get limited reach.
Post frequently: Meta did recommend posting 3-5 times a week, which for most is fairly challenging, but they did say what’s most important is consistency. So if you can not keep up with the recommended frequency, then find something that works for you and stick to it, week in, week out,
ready for growth?
These 7 ways to get discovered with Instagram Reels should have you on the right track.
